I've hidden in spoilers what I consider to be significant spoilers for someone who has read the first few chapters of Foundryside.įoundryside, the first book in Robert Jackson Bennett's Founders trilogy, has a familiar premise: a protagonist, Sancia, with unusual powers of perception and a keen survival instinct is drawn into a conspiracy that involves the fate of the world. ![]() I felt as though this series had many similar plot beats and themes to Mistborn (a series which I'm personally lukewarm on, although I liked it when I first read it), and fans of that series should definitely read the Founders series. I thought that the writing quality improved significantly from book to book, as did the author's engagement with the central ethical themes of the trilogy. The bottom line up front: I thought that this was a great series, but only if readers are willing to tolerate very significant tonal shifts from each book to the next. ![]()
